the eBay survey on Gift Giver Types
The study, which is sponsored by eBay revealed that American women belong to four categories when it regards to giving gifts. Which one are you in?
The Emotional Givers. About 4 out of 10 American women are emotional givers. They generally seek out distinctive presents after giving a lot of thought to their gifts as well as the recipients of their gift lists. Emotional Givers want to show how they’ve gotten to know their recipient of their gifts, and so they prefer to design their gift ideas, usually wrap the gifts on their own, then hand deliver the gift usually with a notes or cards written by hand.
Practical Gifts. About 1 out of 5 American women are in this group of gifters. If they are giving, the most appropriate gift is either cold cash or gift certificates (gift certificates, or gifts vouchers). Practicality is the main factor in their gift giving, thus it is up to the recipient of choosing what gift the receiver thinks is best. And, the perfect instrument to give that kind of flexibility is cash or a gift card.
Convenience Givers. About 16 percent of the survey’s participants classified themselves as this kind of person. The Convenience Givers are good shopping. They tend to shop for gifts from a single outlet or store. For these women, looking for great gift ideas is an effort the end result is that they have to (often reluctantly) finish. The convenience givers are not thrilled or happy when they try to find the perfect gift.
The Last Minute Gift-Givers This is the category of women that shop in the last minutes for presents. The mad rush to buy the last-minute gift seems to be the most popular pastime of those women. Around 13% of American women belong to the group. This group of shoppers typically aren’t planning their gifts far in advance.
It’s possible to exhibit many characteristics. Many people share one major attribute, with one or two secondary traits.
Bloggers have written that they are a mix between the Convenience and emotional gifter. The proof, he said, was the fact that he was shopping for Christmas gifts-all of which were carefully thought-out and planned for specific recipients-from only one online store. Before his transmogrification to the Emotional-Convenience hybrid, he claimed he was definitely of the Last-Minute breed.
Skepticism About Such Surveys
The eBay survey has been well thought out and has been reported as having 95% accuracy with an error rate of 3.1 percent points. The first time I heard about this survey, my first instinct was to do a self-check and find out which kind of gift giver am I. However, it was then that I began to understand that I must take surveys with some salt.
